In his historical criticisms of Gangs of New York, Matt mixed up some factual details.

While we (the C-Stumpers) have no indication of the accuracy Bill The Butcher's portayal in the film, it turns out that he did not, in fact, live during the period depicted. He died in 1855, eight years before the New York Draft Riots.
